Construction workers helped build the house you live in, the school you attend, the buildings where people work, and the roads you drive on. Essentially most any home, building or structure is built by construction workers involved in a variety of tasks, from digging the foundation, to putting up the frame, to making sure that materials are moved to the right location.

WHAT WILL I DO?

  • Use heavy machinery to dig basements, foundations or trenches
  • Put up the initial framework of a building or bridge or lay the foundation of a road
  • Skilled tradesmen will add the details, including carpentry, roofing, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, painting and flooring

COURSES

Introduction to Residential Electrical/Plumbing/HVAC
Introduces students to residential electrical house wiring and industrial motor control. HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) includes electrical, heating equipment installation, sheet metal fabrication and installation, air conditioning installation, and refrigeration theory. Instruction is hands-on and includes a construction site visit where students will perform real job tasks.

Industrial Construction Methods
Learn skills and knowledge related to residential and commercial construction. The broad range of construction course content will prepare students for entry-level employment or continuation of their education in a post-secondary program.

Tiny House/Fish House Construction
The tiny house trend is quickly growing across the country. They can be affordable and energy efficient, reduce materials consumption and cut our carbon footprint. In this course students will explore design considerations and develop hands-on building skills, shifting back and forth between the design studio and the build site. Throughout the year students will build a fish house, tour local facilities and visit a construction site where they will perform real-job tasks.
